Preparing for our First Session
I’m looking forward to it!
Here are a few simple things you can do to help make our first session successful.
If we will be decluttering items, it’s helpful to have large, extra-thick contractor bags on hand (not regular garbage bags). These can be found at most large grocery stores (your local Target or Fred Meyer), home improvement stores (Home Depot or Lowes), or at Costco or Amazon. Ones like this, this, or this work well.
Save boxes and bags for a few weeks. If we’ll be going through books or fragile items, it’s handy to have cardboard boxes and grocery bags on hand to transport these items for donation.
Banker’s boxes are amazingly helpful if we will be decluttering or sorting paperwork and/or mail. They’re also useful for many other things, but before you purchase, I’ll make sure to let you know if these will be a game-changer for your project.
If there are any other specific supply needs we discussed during your consultation call, I’ll send an email about it!
And please, always mention anything else you think of - you know your house and your items best! What has worked well for you in the past when you have organized on your own? If there are specific tools that you like, it’s great to have them on hand.
Have some important supplies on-hand
Eat a nice, big breakfast. We’ll be working hard for 4-6 hours (with short breaks as needed), so make sure you have the energy you need. I’ll bring snacks & drinks for myself, so no need to worry about me.
No need to clean up! This is kind of important. It’s actually really helpful for me to see your space in its “natural state.” Guiding me through what’s working and what’s not is much more effective when your home looks how it “normally” does.
Reduce potential distractions. Working together toward the goals for your home takes a lot of focus. Please make sure you have a plan in place for preventing phone calls, handling child care and pets, dealing with interruptions, etc. so that we can make the absolute most of your time.
Set aside any personal items you don’t want me to see just yet. I am a 100% judgment-free gal - and that is so important to me. But I do realize we all have private things that we just don’t want to share with others, and that’s ok. So if there are items that are particularly private to you, feel free to set them aside in a private place.
Get yourself ready!
Parking: If there is any information I need to park my car safely, please let me know ahead of time. Also, if I must use paid parking, I ask that you reimburse me for that expense. Thank you!
If you need to reschedule or cancel: If you need to reschedule or cancel at the last minute, please text me at 503-473-3074, versus sending me an email. I don’t often check my email late at night or early morning. You can view my rescheduling policy on the FAQ page here: Read the Reschedule and Cancellation Policy.
